Content is King - But Only When It Reigns

Hagan Froemming

Integrating marketing strategy research and development into web design has become a key indicator to a websites survival online. Websites are created to spread awareness or meet and exceed financial objectives, or both. Sure, your website can look easily navigable and posh, but if content falls flat all the bells and whistles in the world cannot save it from doom.

Content is king, but only when it reigns within its kingdom.

I dove into an great book, "Online Marketing", about maximizing and measuring your online presence and below are my key takeaways:

Usability Tips...

  • Calls to actions should always have a link/icon to achieve it
  • Marketers only have 4 seconds to grab a users attention before they exit a website.
  • Have all of a landing page’s related content readily available, one click away

Sellability Tips...

  • It is crucial to demonstrate to users confidence in why they should work with you!
  • Testimonials are the most effective tool in the sales promotion component of marketing.
  • When the customers do all the talking, it lends your brand trust, credibility and authenticity.
  • Don’t be afraid to politely ask for a loyal customer’s testimonial, and make the process easy for them
  • Best if on video, 80% of what people remember is what they see (NYTimes)

Scalability Tips...

  • Build your website to accommodate for your current needs and future needs- it saves you money in the long run.
  • Your marketing should grow your business, so plan for success!
  • Make sure your web developer can execute the functionality and features you will want, so that they plan for it.

Key takeaway: Web design should always follow a marketing strategy model. Without integrating your marketing strategy online your website loses functionality and your business will suffer!
